About this archive

Purpose

This website is an independent, educational archive on the life and diplomatic career of Mauro Vieira and on the Brazilian foreign policy he has served. It is intended for students, teachers, researchers, journalists and general readers.

Scope

The archive covers his biography, career, ambassadorial postings and ministerial terms (2015–2016 and since 2023), together with the institutional and historical context of Brazilian diplomacy. It does not cover his private life beyond details published in official documents, and it does not offer political endorsement or opposition.

Research methodology

Research proceeded from primary sources outward: the curriculum vitae Itamaraty filed with the Federal Senate; Diário Oficial da União publications; Senate records of ambassadorial approvals; UN press releases and records; host-government records of credentials; official texts of speeches (FUNAG, Itamaraty, the G20 Research Group); and official trade statistics (MDIC Comex Stat). Reputable news organisations and academic sources were used for context and for events not covered by primary documents.

Fact-checking and verification

Each factual claim was checked against at least one primary source or two independent reliable sources. Where only a single secondary source exists, the claim is attributed to that source in the text. Where sources conflict — for example on the year of his honorary doctorate (2013 according to Georgetown University; 2014 in some secondary sources) — the primary source is followed and the discrepancy noted.

Some official websites were inaccessible to automated research during the preparation of the archive (including pages under gov.br affected by access controls and by the 2026 electoral-law restrictions). Facts depending on those pages were confirmed through other sources or omitted.

Current-role accuracy

Mauro Vieira’s current role — Minister of Foreign Affairs since 1 January 2023 — was verified on 11 September 2026 against Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement of 7 September 2026, Agência Brasil reporting of 10 September 2026 and Indian press reports of 11 September 2026. Every former role is dated. Readers should confirm current status with official sources after that date.

Quotation policy

Words appear in quotation marks only when the archive has seen them in the cited source. Each quotation carries its date, occasion and source. Where a statement was delivered in Portuguese, either the Portuguese original is given with a labelled translation, or the English rendering published by the cited source is used and identified as such. Paraphrases are never placed in quotation marks.

Editorial layers and neutrality

Content is labelled by layer: historical context, Brazilian foreign policy, Mauro Vieira’s documented role and independent analysis. Contested subjects — armed conflicts, disputed elections, bilateral tensions — are presented through background, documented positions, context and status, without partisan characterisation or graphic content.

Images and rights

Photographs were supplied to the archive by the client. Captions describe only what is visible in the image or recorded in the file’s publisher metadata; people other than Mauro Vieira are identified only when the publisher of the image identifies them. Rights in each photograph remain with its photographer or publisher. Credited images include:

Historical documentation

Dates follow the official record. Where an event is documented only approximately (for example, a statement dated only by month), the archive shows the precision the source supports and no more.

Corrections

The archive welcomes corrections supported by a source. Please use the contact page, identifying the page, the statement and the source. Verified corrections are made promptly and the review date is updated.

Quotations and third-party materials remain the property of their authors and publishers and are cited for purposes of research, criticism and education. Official texts of the Government of Brazil and the United Nations are cited from their published sources.

Independence — no official status

This website is not operated, endorsed or accredited by the Government of Brazil, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty), any Brazilian embassy, the Presidency of the Republic or Mauro Vieira. It uses no official seals or emblems. Links to Itamaraty’s social-media channels are provided for reference only.

Privacy and the enquiry form

The site uses no analytics or tracking cookies. A session cookie and browser session storage are used solely to remember that the passcode has been entered. The enquiry form does not transmit data to any server: on submission it prepares an email in the visitor’s own email application, which the visitor may send or discard.

Accessibility

The site is built to WCAG 2.1 AA principles: semantic structure, keyboard navigation, visible focus, text alternatives for images, sufficient colour contrast, reduced-motion support and touch targets of at least 44 pixels.
